This Academy was created in collaboration with California Park & Recreation Society Youth Development Committee; County of Sacramento YouthWORKS, the Cities of Anaheim, Commerce, Sacramento, West Sacramento; Fair Oaks Recreation & Park District; Yolo County Friday Night Live and Leadership Concepts, Inc.

Conducted three days annually in partnership with local youth serving agencies, our Academy goals are to allow your youth to experience the following:

  • Young people benefit from attending by learning self-reliance and self-confidence which helps them to become adults who can take their place as responsible members of society
  • Young people benefit from attending by developing inner resources and skills needed to cope with daily pressures

What You Will Experience

Youth-oriented, youth planned, and youth led educational activities and networking events are offered as part of the Academy experience. Youth participating on the planning committee can volunteer for a minimum of 20 hours or participate in three educational sessions as trainers and one social activity and attend the conference at no charge. Each group coordinator will track the number of volunteer hours achieved and submit a complimentary registration form prior to the Academy so that the attending youth will receive a name badge. Each group coordinator can determine whether the youth volunteers prior to the Academy, during the Academy or a combination of both. Volunteer hours are limited.

Academy Outcomes:

  • Differentiate between inclusive not exclusive
  • Identify competencies for personal development and lifelong learning
  • State the importance of respecting diversity of experience
  • Network with other youth staff and youth commissioners
  • Demonstrate competencies for teambuilding, introductory icebreakers, and facilitating groups
