Who Should Attend?

Description: 

Our deep dive intensive is packed with a myriad of program ideas with tips and tricks for teen staff.  We welcome teen staff who work daily through programming opportunities to create quality of life for their community.  CPRS supports a wide variety of staff training approaches to ensure that all youth have the skills and training they need to successfully make the transition to adulthood and careers.

Schedule:

 8:30 am 

- 9:00 am           Check-in

 9:00 am - 9:15 am           Introductory Ice Breaker     Trainers: Leadership Concepts, LLC.

 9:15 am 10:15 am         Connecting Teens to their Community     Trainers: City of Irvine

Teen Staff Participants will be able to:

  • Explain the knowledge, skills, and abilities to plan, organize, direct and evaluate evidence based programs which positively impact the teen population.
  • Explain the Search Institute's Developmental Assets and the understand how each member of their team may be empowered as an asset builder.
  • Summarize suggested tools to replicate teen programs designed to connect individuals to their community.

Session Description

Explore how the City of Irvine engages its teens in meaningful leadership and service learning experiences to build development assets and promote thriving behaviors.

10:20 am - 11:20 am          Unique Special Events for Teens—Let Them Build their Own Events

Trainers:  Virginia Chavez, Leadership Concepts, Inc., Erika Sanchez, Leadership Concepts, Inc.' Jose Serrano, World Relief, & Youth Trainers

 Teen Staff Participants will be able to:

  • Explores ways to train youth in planning a special event
  • Participate in a planning process to involve and engage youth volunteers in organizing a special event

Session Description

This is an interactive session with tips and techniques to train youth to be an equal partner in the design, planning, implementation, and evaluation of your next special event. 

Format includes hands-on activities that help you plan an onsite special event that you can replicate with your student leaders.

11:25 am – 12:25 pm         Youth Managing Fear:  Our Role     Trainers:  Virginia Chavez, Leadership Concepts, Inc., Erika Sanchez, Leadership Concepts, Inc., Jose Serrano, World Relief and Youth Trainers

Session Learning Outcomes:

Teen Staff Participant will be able to:

  • Apply seven support techniques for youth development using the acronym INSPIRE
  • Participate in three interactive activities that supports mental wellness to minimize fear

Session Description: Learn techniques to assist youth in understanding fear and how it undermines their success. Learn to apply key elements in youth programming to create a framework for youth success. Network with youth trainers to understand their techniques dealing with fear.
