Injuries, Accidents and Illness At Your Day Camps
American Camp Association (ACA)
has gained funding to do a 5 year tracking of illnesses
and injuries among campers
and staff in day and resident camps across the country
- and they want to include camps that represent the broad
spectrum of camp programs in America - not just the ones
in their "membership."
There will be no charge for a camp to participate, and
in exchange for a weekly web-based report from the camp
to the Children's Research Institute of Ohio State University,
camps will receive training, an annual report with their
own statistics as compared with national statistics.
In addition, camps that have done
this recently have been able to significantly reduce
accidents, injuries, illnesses,
and insurance claims. So there is a bottom line benefit
in addition to "setting the bar" for other camps
in the U.S.
A Q & A describing this program
and enrollment forms can be found at the following address:

While
the information will indicate a deadline of April 15,
they continue to seek camp participation - particularly
among day camps...though more resident camps is still
needed.
If you believe your camps would be interested in this,
please pass the word! Anything you can do will help us
get accurate national data that will make a difference
in the health and safety of campers and staff!
