Los Angeles County Agencies Embrace Creating Community through People, Parks, & Programs

In January 2003 Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Director Tim Gallagher challenged all the cities in Los Angeles County to embrace the VIP Vision, “We Create Community through People, Parks and Programs,” by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The Parks and Recreation Department issued the MOU as it wants to promote the central message of the role of parks and recreation in creating community through people, parks and programs to the residents of Los Angeles County.

The County of Los Angeles through its Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to promote its role and each city’s role in providing recreation experiences, fostering human development, strengthening community image and sense of place, strengthening safety and security, protecting natural resources, increasing cultural unity, promoting health and wellness, and facilitating community problem solving, in partnership with the 88 cities located in Los Angeles County. The department also recognizes the importance of using a common phrase to communicate the value of parks and recreation throughout the County especially in these continuing tight fiscal times.

The following cities and agencies in Los Angeles County have signed the MOU which indicates their willingness to use the phrase, Creating Community through People, Parks and Programs, minimally on their brochures and/or activity guides:
