  • 1.  Fare Increase for Senior Transportation

    Posted 05-30-2023 11:59 AM

My name is Ben Dieterle and I am the Community Services Supervisor for The Center at Founders Village Senior & Community Center in Fountain Valley.

Through OCTA Measure M2 funding, the city provides transportation service through a City contract with California Yellow Cab (CYC) for roundtrip transportation for seniors. Earlier this month, CYC sent us a proposal for rate increases for the upcoming year.

    1. Is your city affected by the fare increase from CYC?
    2. If yes, how much of an increase did your fare increase?
    3. What has been the reliability of transportation for seniors in your program?

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

The City of Irvine does not use Yellow Cab for the Senior Mobility Program. We hold a contract with Yellow Cab for other transportation services and have not received notice of increase in fares.

    Hi Ben,

Laguna Beach does not use Yellow Cab. We have a local nonprofit Sally's Fund for Senior Transportation.

The City of Commerce does not use CYC. We use a form of Dial-A-Ride for our seniors. The vehicles we use are provided to use from our very own Transportation Department.

    Hi Ben,

We do not use CYC for our senior transportation.  We have our own transportation program (W.O.W.). If you need any other information, please let me know.  Thank you,

As far as reliability, it is very hit or miss to be honest. We can go weeks where our patrons are happy with the service and then we can have one bad wekk full of complaints.

Hope this helps & hope you are doing well!
