Teen Leadership Academy - Training Youth & Staff as Assets for Your Community

Designed to demonstrate the partnership between teens and teen programming staff. Target audience is agency youth aged 13 and older and their recreation leaders.  We call the recreation leaders Chaperones.  Friday registration attendees can also participate in all or part of this annual Leadership Academy.

Teens & Youth Chaperones Check-in at the Long Beach Convention Center. If you are registering onsite, please have staff stand in line to register the group and have name badges made.  We do not want your youth missing any part of the sessions.

9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.

Teen Building through Teamwork -- Yes We Said Teens

  • Identify a five-step process for facilitating an interactive activity
  • Generate three interactive activities with instructions provided

Learning to Appreciate Each Other

  • Participate in a cultural simulation exercise that creates two new cultures
  • Demonstrate and identify expectations and customs of your new culture

  • Discuss a four step self-plan for assisting youth on the path to college
  • Identify how youth advisors can mentor youth in creating a college or career plan

Youth Power in Project Planning - Teens Are Your Asset

  • Identify learning techniques for working with a youth group to complete a task
  • Explain and demonstrate how to plan a project from conception to implementation

Teens & Youth Chaperones Evaluate the Academy and process CEUs
