CPRS strongly encourages your participation on October 23rd at 2:30 pm (Pacific) to take part in a listening session on the resources/climate bond (AB 1567) featuring the bond's author and former CPRS Legislator of the Year, Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia. CPRS and our legislative advocate, Doug Houston, have been working closely with Mr. Garcia in a number of capacities, including assisting in the drafting of bond content and outreach to other legislators and stakeholder groups. CPRS' efforts are clearly reflected in the language of the bonds, which is very parks and greenspace forward and includes nearly $2 Billion in local assistance grant opportunities as follows:
In contrast, the Senate version (SB 867) contains a combined $500 Million for State Parks, the Statewide Park Program and museums. There is no Per Capita, no trails funding, and lesser amounts for Urban Greening and Forestry.
At this juncture, the advancement of a bond has been delayed until early next year. However, sounding off as a collective at this critical juncture, demonstrating support, and sharing thoughts, questions, and concerns so as to assist the Assemblyman in shaping future content moving forward is an important and necessary step as bond discussions unfold between the two authors and the Governor's office.
