CPRS Story Walk / Story Boards - Submit by 2/9

  • 1.  CPRS Story Walk / Story Boards - Submit by 2/9

    Posted 02-06-2024 11:46 AM

    The concept:

As a way to invite and encourage our members to 'tell their story', we want to create a Story Walk / Story Boards that will be showcased during our Connections 2024 Conference.  We would like you as A-Team reps to reach out to members of your board and CPRS members within your District or Section to collect stories. The stories should highlight how – using the goals stated below – park and recreation departments help a community THRIVE.  Note that these stories should be very COMMUNITY-focused, not CPRS-focused. We really want to see how we are making the lives of residents in our communities better.

     The Details:

    • Story Boards will be placed all around conference - in the registration lobby, along the route between the host hotel and the convention center, in the General Session room, for all attendees to read and be inspired by.
    • Stories will be solicited by our CPRS A-Team Reps.  High-quality photos are highly encouraged to catch people's attention!
    • Stories should be no more than 1,000 words total.
    • Stories will be collected online, via the same system we use for awards (see link below); this allows us to have all stories in one location, along with the ability to upload photos.
    • Deadline to submit a story is February 9, 2024
    • Each story should highlight one of our 9 stated goals:
      • Promote health and wellness: Promote physical, emotional, and mental health through fitness, play, and activity.
      • Support economic vitality: Attract new businesses, foster economic development, promote community revitalization, increase tourism, provide jobs, and generate revenues to support the economic vitality of our communities.
      • Create recreation experiences: Get people involved in their communities by creating engaging programs, special events, and new recreation experiences.
      • Foster social cohesiveness: Create cohesive communities by celebrating diversity, providing inclusive services, modeling compassion, promoting social equity, connecting social networks, and ensuring all people have access to the benefits of parks and recreation.
      • Support human development: Support youth development and lifelong learning to foster social, intellectual, physical, and emotional growth in people of all ages and abilities.
      • Protect natural resources: Protect habitat and open space, connect people to nature, promote the ecological function of parkland, and sustain and steward our natural resources.
      • Strengthen community identity and sense of place: Provide parks, facilities, and services that reflect and celebrate community character, heritage, culture, history, aesthetics, and landscape.
      • Facilitate community problem-solving: Apply skills in community engagement, collaboration, leadership, and facilitation to resolve community problems and issues.
      • Support community vibrancy: Support safe, vibrant, attractive, walkable communities that make life better through parks and recreation.
    • Physical story boards will be designed and printed to be placed around different areas of conference.
    • Collected stories may also be featured in future CPRS magazines, social media posts, and on our website.

While this particular Story Walk / Story Board campaign is aligned with Connections 2024, we see it as a launching pad to our 2024 PMLB Campaign.   Here is the link to share with anyone that would like to submit a story: https://www.abstractscorecard.com/cfp/submit/login.asp?EventKey=RIZNEKLK. People will need to create a new account. This is not the same login and password as they use for the CPRS website.
