Why have you chosen to run for the CPRS State Board of Directors?
I believe that the maintenance employees are a vital part of the profession and they are often under represented. I would like to be a part of enhancing the participation and representation of the field staff. I have been a part of CPRS since. The number of positive impacts this organization has had on not only my career, but on me as a person is countless. I want to give back the same experiences to others in the profession. As my term as President of the Development and Operations board comes to a close, I want to use my experience at the next level.
What personal attributes, skills, or knowledge would you bring to the State Board of Directors if elected?
Dedication and passion. I have been in the parks maintenance field for over 20 years, starting as a volunteer and building a strong career. I have first hand knowledge and experience and I feel that will be a benefit to the board.
What is the greatest challenge our profession faces and how will you lead to address that challenge?
As a parks professional that started as a volunteer and has worked their way to a supervisory position, I have always been a champion for the line staff. I feel they are often dismissed when it comes to looking at the "professionals" in the business. I want to help build a community for those folks in the field, where they feel they are seen and heard as a valuable member of the organization. Establishing forums where the maintenance staff can meet to discuss issues or innovations; collaboration sessions where they can meet with administrators and others to share the concerns and work together to build better relationships; increased sessions at conferences that are designed for and by maintenance staff; Region events that are designed to bring these opportunities to the staff in their communities. These are just a few of the ideas I have to enhance the maintenance worker experience with CPRS and the Development and Operations section.
