    Hello CPRS Members

Networking with peers is one of the top reasons park and recreation professionals join CPRS. The new CPRS Website has a forum/listserv to help members share valuable and relevant information.

As the famous comic hero quote goes: “With great power comes great responsibility”. As CPRS members of the District and Section groups, you have the “power” to communicate with all current members. However, you have the responsibility to understand just what the power means. Below are some hints on listserv etiquette and step-by-step instructions to change your listserv email delivery status.

We want to encourage you to keep receiving the emails from your District and Section groups and to continue to contribute your valued knowledge. If you respond to an email sent through the CPRS Networking Communities, the message is sent to the entire District/Section group list. This is how a listserv works and it is part of the process of sharing information. Because of the nature of the listserv, please observe the following etiquette suggestions.

Listserve Etiquette: Tips for sending messages

    1. When responding to a listserv, keep your messages brief but relevant.
    2. Include a portion or a summary of the message you are responding to.
    3. Stick to the topics intended for discussion on the listserv.
    4. Be careful when using humor in your messages.
    5. Don't send meaningless messages with no content, such as "I agree!" or “We don’t have a skate park”
    6. Identify yourself. This could be your first and last name and your institution.
    7. Avoid flaming individuals on the listserv. If you have a conflict with an individual, settle it by private e-mail messages.
    8. Don't be critical of people's queries posted to the listserv. Many people are new to the listserv. Send them a private message and "gently" make suggestions if you think it is warranted. We're here to learn, share, and grow from each other.
