  • CPRS Conference Update

    Hello Aging Section members!

    Conference is only two weeks away and the Aging Section is preparing for great educational sessions, fun social opportunities, lots of networking and showing CPRS members why the Aging Section is the place to be!

    Aging Services Intensive: Building Momentum with the Aging Services Professional
    Tuesday March 19th from 1pm – 5pm
    0.35 CEUs
    There is still space in our Aging Services Intensive. This year’s intensive will be split into three parts:
    Part 1 will provide a train the trainer type workshop to help full time Coordinators, Supervisors and Management staff develop, train and manage recreation personnel who are new to Aging Services
    Part 2 is a round table discussion with the Recreation Section on a variety of topics including Intergenerational programming, marketing, grant funding, addressing homelessness and more.
    Part 3 is a discussion on aging and reframing/retraining the general public on what aging really looks like to help generate support.

    Join us for appetizers and networking with other Aging Professionals, free of charge.

    Aging Section Conference Booth at the CPRS Expo
    Wednesday, March 20th from 12pm – 5pm
    Thursday, March 21st from 9am – 3pm
    Make sure you stop by our booth and say hi. We will have giveaways and will be meeting with our members. The Aging Section is looking for volunteers to help staff the conference booth. We are looking for Section members who are interested in spreading the word on how great the Aging Section is, why they have chosen to get involved and what being a part of the Section means to you. Don’t worry if you not familiar with the Aging Section, this is a fantastic opportunity for new and veteran members to get involved. We are only asking for one hour! You can definitely spare that!     CPRS Party within the Party Bowling Tournament
    Wednesday March 20th 8pm – 9pm
    That’s right ya’ll, we got a mini bowling team. But there is still room for more participants. During the CPRS Progressive Social, all the Districts, Sections and CPRS Board members will be participating in a bowling tournament at Punch bowl social. We have 45 minutes to get the highest score. We even get to wear matching outfits! Please contact Tiffany Starks at tstarks@fontana.org if you are interested in joining! Bowling shoes, lane and bowling balls will be provided, unless you have your own. (baller alert!!!)

    General Membership Meeting
    Thursday, March 21st from 1pm – 2pm at the Hyatt Regency – Carmel AB
    The Aging Section hosts one in person general membership meeting each year and this is it! Make sure you stop by to see the 2019 Board of Directors get installed, the announcement of this year’s scholarship winners and join us as we plan our upcoming year and set goals for 2019-2020

    • Identify and discuss the benefits and challenges associated with providing parks, facilities and services that are healthy for a variety of ages.
    • Identify and brainstorm ideas on programs, services and facility adjustments that can be implemented to provide a more inclusive and healthier environment regardless of age.

    Essential Services: Inclusive practices & the ADA for Aging Adults

    • Define and articulate what the ADA is, what inclusion is (broadly) and what your responsibility is within that mandate
    • Identify what is and what is not a reasonable accommodation

    • Correct common myths about service animals
    • Describe the difference between service animals and emotional support animals

    Program Enrichment for tomorrow's Seniors

    Jennifer Sisoev, MSG, MPA, Recreation Supervisor, City of Newport Beach

    • Discuss age ranges that define a senior, with an emphasis on different generations of seniors
    • Summarize a list of things to consider when planning programs for the specific age ranges coming to your senior programs or center including a discussion on current trends in senior services

    Friday March 22nd 10:15am- 11:15am
    Senior Services: Networking for Solutions

    Facilitated by the CPRS Aging Section Board of Directors

    • Describe new ideas for senior programs including leisure enrichment activities and the staff needed to conduct those programs
    • Discuss online, print and “out of the box” marketing to get your consumers to return to your programs
