  • Brooks Scholarship Applications due by November 22, 2021.

    The CPRS Development and Operations Section proudly presents the 2021 Brooks Scholarship in honor of Dr. Fred A. Brooks. Awarded annually by the California Foundation for Parks and Recreation (CFPR), the purpose of this scholarship is to honor the legacy of Dr. Fred A. Brooks by supporting the education and development of professionals in fields of study related to the planning, design, construction, maintenance and management of public facilities including parks, community centers and natural resources. The CFPR Committee annually awards scholarships to junior, senior and graduate level students throughout the state of California.  Award amounts are generally between $1000 and $2000. On occasion, an outstanding student has been the recipient of more than one scholarship.

    Scholarship applications are evaluated based on five overall criteria:

    • Academic achievement
    • Professional affiliation(s) and activity
    • Experience in the field, paid or volunteer
    • Leadership and professional potential
    • Faculty and professional references

    General Guidelines:

    • Undergraduate applicants must have completed or be enrolled in courses that add up to a minimum of 60 units with at least 12 units in their major.
    • Undergraduate students must have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA in their major and cumulative GPA of 2.5
    • Graduate candidates must have completed at least 9 units and have a GPA of 3.0 overall and in the major.
    • Scholarship winners may only be eligible to be awarded twice (2 years) per degree.
    • Only completed applications with faculty recommendation, professional recommendation, and transcripts will be eligible for review.


    In addition, Brooks Scholarship Applicants are required to be:

    • An active CPRS member in the Development and Operations or Student Sections;
    • Able to attend the scholarship award ceremony in-person (or virtually) at the 2022 CPRS Annual Conference and Exposition;
    • Willing to submit a photo and brief bio to the “Scholarship Honor Roll” on the CPRS Development and Operations Section web page;
    • Currently working full time, part time or seasonally with a public agency;
    • Majoring in one of the following areas:

      • Arboriculture
      • Landscape Architecture
      • Geographic Information Systems
      • Parks and Recreation Management
      • Natural Resource Management
      • Construction or Facility Management
      • Urban Planning
      • Public Administration
      • Any other related fields for planning, design, construction, maintenance and management of public facilities

     

    Completed applications are due by Monday, November 22, 2021. Award notifications typically are sent in January each year.
