  • CPRS District 12 Meeting

    Dear CPRS District 12 members,

You are invited to join us for our upcoming board and general membership meeting next Wednesday, September 28 at the Nobel Recreation Center in La Jolla. Dr. Noe Crespo from San Diego State will be the guest speaker. He developed a program called Athletes for Life while working in partnership with the City of Phoenix. He is a researcher and professor in the graduate school of public health. He will talk about how park assets can be used in research and grant opportunities, and how the City of Phoenix has continued to host the Athletes for Life with grant funding.

Enclosed is an agenda for the meeting, and please remember that you do not need to be a CPRS member to attend. If you have a colleague who is curious about CPRS, please invite them to see what the organization is about.

Please keep a few upcoming dates in mind:

    * November Workshop: Wednesday, November 9 from 8:30 to 2:00 at the City of Coronado. Mickey Fern from North Carolina State will be the keynote speaker, and Darin Loughrey will be the luncheon keynote speaker. Registration will open soon and the cost is $25.

    * Administrator's Summit: Wednesday, November 9 (4 to 7:30 pm) and Thursday, November 10 (8:30 to 2:00 pm). This is an ideal event for Directors and Managers. A panel of City Managers will include Stacey LoMedico (San Diego), Yvonne Garrett (La Mesa) and Allen Carlisle (CEO Padre Dam). Mickey Fern will do a more extensive dinner keynote. Other topics will include a continuous improvement session and open data programs. The Summit will include a bus tour of area parks, including lunch at the Olympic Training Center dining hall. Registration is $95 and includes registration to the November Workshop.

    * SDSU Tailgate: November 5 at 1:00 pm (game starts at 4:00 pm).

    * CPRS Holiday Social: Wednesday, December 7

We had a great family picnic last weekend at Tierrasanta Community Park. We also just had more than a dozen professionals help San Diego State students at a speed networking event. I hope you continue to find value in the programs and events that we are organizing, and please feel free to contact anyone on the board if you have ideas on how the District could be even better.

    Best regards,
