    District 13

    STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

    PURPOSE OF SCHOLARSHIP:

    To assist students sincerely interested in furthering their professional advancement in the field of parks and recreation or a related field.

    DESCRIPTION OF SCHOLARSHIP:

    Each scholarship will consist of a cash award and a certificate. The committee, upon approval by District 13 Board of Directors, will determine monetary amounts of actual Scholarships for each winner.

    REQUIREMENTS OF THE SCHOLARSHIP/PAST PRESIDENTS’ SCHOLARSHIP:

    (Candidates must meet ALL the following requirements.)

    Candidates must be employed or volunteer within District 13.

    The award is open to students attending college, majoring in Recreation, Park Management, Human Services, Physical Education, Gerontology, Public Administration, or a related field.

    Applicants must be attending college with a minimum of six units, while pursuing an AA, BS/BA or a Masters degree.

    Candidates must be carrying at least a 3.0 grade point average.

    Candidates must be employed or volunteering in Parks and Recreation, or related field (Working a minimum of 12 hours per week).

    Candidates eligible for the Past Presidents’ Scholarship must be attending college full time (BS/BA or MA), while pursuing a degree in any of the majors listed above and demonstrate various characteristics such as volunteering for District 13 and/or assisting in committees or on the board to show potential in becoming President of the Board in the future.

    Past scholarship recipients who have received a District 13 scholarship within the last three years are not eligible.

    SELECTION OF SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS AND PRESENTATION OF AWARDS:

    District 13 Scholarship Committee will select potential recipient(s) after review of the applications. The minimum scholarship award will be $500 and the maximum will be up to $1000. Applications must be received by Monday, February 13, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. Those who qualify as a finalist will be scheduled for an interview on February 23, 2017. Awards will be presented at the annual CPRS District 13 Installation and Awards Dinner Banquet on Thursday, April 6, 2017.
