    CPRS RESEARCH TO PRACTICE SYMPOSIUM  

    Call for Research Abstracts  

    Abstracts due 5pm January 23, 2023  

    Abstract Submission  

      

    Join us in San Diego for the California Parks and Recreation Society Conference and Expo! Submit an abstract for the Research to Practice Symposium, held April 4 and 5, 2023, in the expo hall of the annual CPRS Conference 

     

    The CPRS Research to Practice Symposium provides a forum to exchange and discuss new knowledge developed through research. The Research to Practice Symposium will be on Tuesday, April 4 and Wednesday, April 5, 2023, in the expo hall (posters displayed April 4 and April 5, presentations April 5). We welcome and encourage submissions from student researchers, in addition to faculty and other researchers.  

      

    Presentation Format  

    Researcher(s) have 5 minutes to provide an oral presentation of their research. After all research has been presented, at least one researcher must remain with their poster to discuss their research for the remainder of the research session (about one hour).   

      

    Research Foci  

    There are two types of abstracts accepted, Professional Practice and Leisure Theory.   

    • The Professional Practice focus communicates research that emphasizes the application of findings to parks, recreation, and tourism professionals. Only empirical research projects will be considered. Professional Practice abstracts must contain the following elements: Introduction, Method, Results, and Conclusions.  

    • The Leisure Theory focus emphasizes research related to conceptualizations and theories of leisure behavior, consumption, and the overall social implications of leisure. Both empirical research projects and conceptual/theoretical papers are considered. Leisure Theory abstracts must include the following elements: Introduction, Theoretical Review, Methods (if appropriate), Results (if applicable), and Discussion emphasizing implication for parks and recreation.  

      

    Abstract Submission   

    All submissions will be blind peer-reviewed by a review committee facilitated by the symposium coordinator. For full consideration, abstracts should be submitted by 5 PM, January 23.    

      

    The online submission form requests the following information:   

    1. First author name, email address, institution, title  

    2. Student status (Students are encouraged to submit completed research projects. Graduate students whose thesis research will be completed by March 2023 are encouraged to submit.)  

    3. Research focus (Professional Practice or Leisure Theory)  

    4. The abstract must contain 500 or fewer words. The optional list of references is not included in the word count and should be submitted on a separate page. Please remove any identifying information from the abstract and list of references.  

      

    Accepted Abstracts  

    1. E-mail notification of acceptance will occur by mid-February 2023.   

    2. If accepted, the first author or designated coauthor must attend the Symposium to present the research. Due to limited presentation time, please do not submit an abstract unless it is certain that this responsibility can be fulfilled.   

    3. Posters must be 3’ x 4’. Researchers are encouraged to provide 8.5” x 11” handouts that summarize their research and a list of references.  

    1. If an abstract is accepted for a presentation, complimentary expo hall registration for April 5 will be awarded to the primary or designated coauthor presenting the research (one registration per abstract). Expo Hall registration information will be provided once a submission is accepted  

    2. Authors accepted for presentation are also invited to submit a condensed version of their paper for consideration to be published in the blind peer-reviewed research section of the CPRS Magazine.
