The challenge details are: We encourage every member of your District or Section to introduce themselves to the community. Ideally, we'd love for members to share a bit about themselves, but even a simple "Hi" will count.

This is our dedicated thread to gather all the introductions - so please reply here so we can get points!

Thanks for engaging with us here and let's GOOOAAAAALLLL D1 MIGHTY ONES!!!!!

    Hey D1!!

My name is Cindy Bagley, Community Services Director for the City of Rohnert Park (Sonoma County). I love being a part of D1 and served as D1 President in 2014! I am now serving on the CPRS State Board as your President-Elect. I have been with the City of Rohnert Park since 2016, and prior to that was with the Town of Windsor. I got my Recreation start with Skyhwaks Sports Academy.

Fun Fact About Me (And sorry if you read this in the Admin Section Thread): I bowled my first perfect 300 game in April during league play. Oh! And I also make a pretty darn realistic chicken sound. Find me at an event and I might do it :-) LOL

    Hey D1,

I am Steve Mason and I first started in recreation "part-time" in 1980 working for the Burlingame Recreation Department.  I received a Bachelors in Recreation Administration with a Business emphasis from Chico State and have worked professionally for the City of Sausalito, Collier County Parks and Recreation Department (Naples Florida), City of Foster City, Strawberry Recreation District, City of Novato, and for the past 15 years the City of San Rafael (not to mention a few commercial gigs in between).  I served on the D1 Board including the presidential trilogy.  I love the community aspect of our profession and our ability to make a positive impact on people's lives.

Fun Professional Fact:  Years ago, I hired the daughter of one of the Rolling Stones as a camp counselor.

    Have a great summer!

    Hey CPRS!

I'm Matt, a Recreation Supervisor for the City of Healdsburg and a self-proclaimed internet sensation. You may remember me as your District 4 Vice-President from 2018, your District 1 President from 2022, or as "the guy in the silly costume" at CPRS Conferences since 2004. I've been serving my community since the mid-1980s after my parents forced philanthropic activities and civic stewardship on their young children. I've had a love for special events since planning my first community special event in 1997 at the age of 15. Additionally, I have been an advocate for parks and recreation since 2004 after attending my first Parks & Recreation class at San Jose State University.

Fun Facts... (all of these are 100% true):

    • Recently became a father (again), this time to a baby girl now 4 months old
    • I prefer to be classified as a Xennial and refer to my generation as "Goonies"
    • I've travelled to 24 countries, 45 US states, and 18 National Parks
    • In 2002 I put over 80,000 miles on my Chevy
    • You can find me in old TV episodes of Myth Busters, Jimmy Kimmel Live, Giants Pre-Game Live, KOFY TV20 Dance Party, and in a music video (intentionally unnamed)
    • Spent an entire summer backpacking throughout California and New Mexico
    • Once sat next to Former President Gerald Ford at a football game (for about 15-minutes); we talked mostly about Scouting
    • I love filmography and video editing; have filmed 1-sec of my life every day since 2013. YT: @mrmatt2482
    • I have won a Matt Damon look-alike competition (that's what I look like under the beard)
    • I have five known scars from playing too rough at the following recreational activities: biking, football, kayaking, golf, and laser tag
    • I do a good impression of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog
    • In 1989, after one year of piano lessons, my recital performance earned me a participation trophy, which I still proudly display in my home as a reminder of my mastery in the art of participation.
    • I'm exceptionally good at linking actors to Kevin Bacon within six-degrees
    • I brunch, HARD

For some reason, when I started writing these bullets, it seemed important that you knew these random facts about me. However, at this moment, I can't remember why.

    Be excellent to each other!

Hey everyone... My name is Aaron Locks. I am the CEO and Founder of the National Academy of Athletics, many of you probably know my staff better than me as they work directly with you. My first job was coaching basketball with Stuart Kessler at the Mill Valley Rec while in high school, but my career started as I was working as an assistant to Coach John Wooden in LA, over 40 years ago. My entire career has been in partnership with Parks and Recreation and I feel blessed to do something I love for a living that has such a positive impact on the kids lives and I am extremely grateful to all of you amazing Rec-Pros for all you do.  #PlayHardHaveFun  #TeamworkMakesTheDreamWork

    Hi!

I'm Ben, also with the National Academy of Athletics, and have been working side by side with a bunch of you for the last 5-7 years. Before starting my recreational sports programming in partnership with all of you I played basketball professionally in various parts of Europe. I took my passion of sports and wanted to get involved with passing my experiences on to the kids of our communities as well as the new up and coming coaches! If we don't love what we are doing...what exactly are we doing?!

Always a fun thing, reading about others!  I am Mike Cook, a landscape architect with INTEGRA Landscape Architecture, and I am currently the D&O Rep for the D1 Board of CPRS.  I own INTEGRA Landscape Architecture, and we provide our expertise to many of the D1 agencies!  We appreciate Cotati and San Anselmo for their continued support and collaboration!

Something interesting about me is that I could have been a professional golfer, but my MOM said I had to get a Bachelors degree before I did that, and Cal Poly, SLO didn't have a golf team when I started there for my Bachelors of Landscape Architecture, but, I was able to rally a lot of students and by the time I graduated, there was a Division II Golf Team!  But I didn't get to play on it at all.

    Good Morning Everyone!

Let me introduce myself – I am Julie Myers a Recreation Supervisor at the Greater Vallejo Recreation District. I oversee Aquatics, Community Events, Children's Wonderland, Adaptive Recreation, Outreach and Marketing, and the Front Desk. Yes, I am quite busy I am fairly new to Recreation, I started in 2015. But I am happy to say that I have found my home in Recreation.

    Hi All!

My name is Darcie Chellew, and I am a Recreation Supervisor at the San Rafael Community Center. I went to Diablo Valley College and transferred to Cal State San Bernardino where I majored in Graphic Design and Marketing. While most of my college years were spent on the softball field, I had no idea that a career in recreation was a possibility! Fast forward to now and I can't imagine a better fit for me. When I am not at work, you can find me digging for bugs, building block towers, at a local park or mixing up ingredients from the cupboards and fridge to make "ice cream" - OH! Forgot to mention I have a three-year-old, that might help explain things.

    Hi there,

My name is Elizabeth Crisante and I'm a Recreation Manager with City of Vacaville. I've been in Parks and Rec for 30+ years; my first job was a summer lifeguard and swim instructor at the ripe young age of 14 (back when that was acceptable lol). I have worked for numerous agencies and love this field because there's never a dull moment. People always ask if I ever watched the show Parks and Rec and I tell them no because I live it every day and it's way better! Fun facts about me: I'm a dog person all the way (although I can appreciate a good cat video), I am a San Francisco Giants fan, and I love to travel.

Cheers to a safe and successful summer for everyone!

I feel blessed that I have been able to find so much fun and joy in the programs that I have had a chance to be a part of for so many years as a Recreation lifer. Over the past three years, I have worked my way up to my current position, where I get to partner with many of you to offer recreational youth sports camps, clinics, and programs.

  • 31.  RE: CPRS June Challenge – Let's Introduce Ourselves!

    Posted 06-21-2024 10:05 AM

TGIF D1!!  It's been so wonderful to see and learn so much more about my fellow CPRS D1 members through CPRS' HQ June Challenge!  I thought to follow up this thread to share a bit more about myself as well as promote two new, up and coming events your D1 Board are bringing to YOU!

I bit more about me, my name is Risa De Ferrari, I am your current CPRS District 1 President and have been a part of the D1 Board for the past three years.  I've worked in Recreation for over 10 years and held positions as a Recreation Supervisor, Business Manager, and most recently Deputy Director for Mill Valley Recreation!  I cherish the people in CPRS and Recreation - you are some of the most hard working, tireless, and passionate people I've come across through my professional career.

Before Recreation, I worked in State government, the private sector, and the non-profit sector. I received my undergraduate in Spanish and International Relations and dabbled with joining the Peace Corps and/or Diplomatic Core after college. I also have my Master's in Sustainable Business.

Recently, I accepted an opportunity to work in the City of Mill Valley City Manager's Office as a City Clerk.  I'm very excited about this opportunity and it was a clear yes, as it will show me the greater innerworkings of our City as a whole as well as the business of all Departments, City Manager, and our Council.  And, do not despair!! My City Manager is A-OKAY with me continuing my CPRS Recreation pursuits SO... I'm not going anywhere and the membership and Board remains intact and ready to live another day and year ahead!

Fun fact about me! I'm in hot pursuit of doggie agility with my two pups (Tango and Zoe!) who are Border Collies we adopted. Tango and I have reached intermediate agility and are currently practicing full blown circuits! It's a total blast, both humans and doggies are having a blast, and it's a new found passion for competition that I never thought I would pursue! But here we are. :)

As for the District 1 Events - Please see the attached full flyers!!  Also, you can register for the event on our District 1 Events Page.

Mighty Ones - Wishing you all a FANTASTIC WEEKEND ahead and looking forward to connecting with each and every one of you in-person over the coming year!!

    Recreationally Yours!!

    Risa
