Hi Fellow Recreators,
As an introvert/extrovert, I typically pass on these opportunities but I've been inspired and I Have been enjoyIng the engagement- reading from professionals I've never met, or learning more from fellow reckies I know.
My name is Julian and community has been a part of my life forever. Whether that looks like families on a cul-de-sac hosting the best fourth of July parties in GilrOy, Ca., leading trail cRews with the StudEnt Conservation Association, or building a communitY at the Red Morton Youth Center in Redwood City. Now, I am a coordinator with the City of Pleasanton with the largest focus on youth programs.
Fun facts: I'm named after my great grandfather; my grandpa was 1 of 16 siblings (all the same parents) as they were mighty field workers; I've accidentally stepped on a beehive and paid for it; I've been stung by a sting-ray; and sky-dived (sky-dove?).
Thank you everyone for pushing through the challenges we each face to continue to build community. And thank you for sharing a bit about yourself.
Sincerely,
Julian Mireles

Hi everyone! I am trying to write in before the June Challenge ends! :) My name is Vannessa Cendejas and I also work for the City of Walnut Creek (shoutout to Elizabeth and Jim who have written already)! I have been here for over 8 years now supporting our adult 50+ programs, community arts (18+), transportation program, summer camp, special events, adult 50+ travel and all age ranges for folks who have intellectual or developmental disabilities. I have worn many hats over the years while being here--happy to say that there has never been a dull moment in my career. I appreciate my colleagues and how much passion they have for our community. Prior to joining the Walnut Creek team, I received my Masters of Social Work from the University of Southern California (USC) and my B.A. degree from UC Berkeley. I really enjoy learning and teaching and hope to earn my doctorate someday and teach at a university level.
Fun fact: I created the Trunk or Treat event for our community back in 2019, where I had ask our team of 6 to support the "200" people who RSVP'd for our event, but we ended up with 2,000 people (lots of learning curves back then). :) Five years later, the Arts and Recreation team has all hands on deck for this event that now hosts over 8,000 members of our community for the last few years.

I had to jump in after a fellow SF State gator! I am Elizabeth Sheets Orcutt, the Community Relations Manager for the City of Walnut Creek's Arts + Rec department. Last week, I celebrated my first anniversary with the City and have been having a blast! With a unique background in dance, health, hospitality, operations, and nonprofit communications, it's been a joy to combine my experiences in this public-facing role over the past year. Our incredible staff has been so supportive, and I'm in awe of them daily.
I rent a great duplex in Walnut Creek with my spouse and our dog (the dog doesn't pay rent, though), and I feel fortunate to serve the community where I live and explore! I'm an avid quilter, a mediocre violinist, and a big proponent of physical movement for mental health.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Steve Voorhies and I currently serve as the Director of Recreation Services for the City of Concord (where I grew up, learned to swim, got my first paycheck from the golf course driving range, volunteered, and have been working ever since, for better or worse – I never left). My first involvement with CPRS was on the D4 board while attending San Francisco State, I've served on a range of CPRS committees and initiatives but feel most strongly about the simply awesome professional network that we all have – and this is a creative way to activate it!
Fun fact, the City of Concord is fortunate to have a summer camp at Lake Tahoe called Camp Concord, the Camp Director who hired me to work there in 1989 suggested I look into the recreation degree and career path, the rest is history, I can fill you in on the story when our paths cross.

The Big 3 with other District Past Presidents jumping on its my turn. My name is Matthew Galindo and I was the District's first Vice President, first to complete the 3 year Presidential Series (Vice President, President Elect and President) and served as the District's President during COVID. Currently I am a Recreation Program Manager with the City of Concord's Recreation Servies Department with Aquatics, Youth Programs and Facility Rentals in my area. Fun fact working with the waterfront staff of our residential camp, Camp Concord in South Lake Tahoe I have trained and certified Lifeguards from all over the world (I have tried Vegemite from the Aussie's and it is god awful).
