Not every director is destined to be a city manager. This session explores the realities of the transition—what skills translate, challenges to anticipate, and how to evaluate if the role is right for you. Gain practical insights from leaders who’ve made the move and leave with tools to chart your own path.

You’ll learn:

• Identify the core skills and experiences that successfully transfer from a director role to city management.
• Recognize the unique challenges, responsibilities, and work-life balance implications of the city manager role compared to department leadership.
• Evaluate personal leadership style, career goals, and readiness to determine if the transition is the right fit.
