  • 1.  Credit Card Processing Fees

    Posted 03-13-2025 01:40 PM

    Hello Eveyone,

We are updating our credit card payment provider and would like to know if any organizations are absorbing the credit card processing fees or passing them on to customers. The City of Newark currently covers these fees, which amount to over $60,000 annually. Would love to hear what everyone is doing.

    Thank you!

    Good afternoon D3!

City of Dublin started passing the credit card fee to the customer this past year. There is definitely an adjustment period and lots of notifications to our regular user groups, but we are making it work. Like most changes, it just takes time for everyone to adjust and get used to the fee being there.

Our setup is that the customer pays a convenience fee directly to the processor at time of the transaction. I recommend against using a model where an agency serves as an intermediary. Feel free to call me and happy to discuss further.

    Hello,

The City of Albany has passed credit card fees to customers for about a year now; the fees go directly to the vendor. As stated before, it is a transition period for the customers to adjust, and we tried to tell them ahead of time about the different payment options. We have seen an increase in cash and in-person check payments.
