We highly recommend reviewing the CPSI Candidate Handbook for the most up to date and detailed information about the Playground Safety Inspector Certification and process.
Have Questions?
If you have questions about the exam or certification not addressed in the handbook, please contact NRPA directly at certification@nrpa.org.
If you have questions about a specific course/exam hosted by CPRS, have any challenges with the registration process, or wish to follow up on the status of the arrival of your course materials, please contact CPRS at (916) 665-2777 or cprs@cprs.org.
What is the difference between getting the certification and renewing the certification?
Those who are pursuing the certification for the first time or those who are pursuing the certification after their three-year certification cycle has lapsed (expired) must take and pass the CPSI exam to gain the CPSI certification.
Those who are pursuing recertification have already taken and passed the exam to gain the certification and aim to maintain their CPSI certification. Those whose certification will expire on or after July 1, 2026, are eligible to renew their CPSI certification via continuing education units (CEU) OR taking and passing the CPSI exam. To learn more about the path to recertification via CEU, click here.
Who Can Register?
Anyone (18 or older), regardless of location, industry, and title may register to complete the CPSI course and/or exam with CPRS (there is a cost savings for CPRS members).
Do I I Need A High School Diploma?
Beginning in 2025, it is no longer necessary for exam candidates to have a high school diploma.
Where Is The Certification Applicable?
The certification is a national voluntary standard which is not necessarily specific to any one state. Please consult with your local or relevant entity to learn if this certification satisfies their requirements/standards.
