What is CPRS?

Founded in 1946, CPRS is a nonprofit, professional and public interest organization with over 4,000 members throughout California. Our mission is to advance the park and recreation profession through education, networking, resources, and advocacy.

Who can join CPRS?

Anyone with an interest in the parks and recreation profession is welcome to join the California Park & Recreation Society (CPRS). This includes: 

  • Professionals working in public, nonprofit, or private recreation and park agencies 
  • Students pursuing degrees in recreation, leisure studies, parks, or related fields
  • Retirees who want to stay connected to the profession 
  • Industry Partners who support parks and recreation services 
  • Volunteers, board/commission members, and advocates of parks, community services, and public spaces 

Whether you're just starting your career, a mid-level manager, or an industry leader, CPRS offers a place for you to learn, grow, and contribute.

What types of membership are available?

CPRS offers several membership types:

Individual Memberships

  • $165 - Professional - Employed Full-Time (Employer is NOT a member)
  • $145 - Professional - Employed Full-Time (Employer IS an Agency Member)
  • $95 - Professional - Part-Time (Working less than 30 hours)
  • $0 for 25/26 - Elected or Appointed Official (Commissioners, Board, Advisory & Committee Members)
  • $65 - Active Retiree (Retired individual with active CPRS membership for 5-years prior to retiring)
  • $65 - Student - Full-time (School is NOT a CPRS Member) 
  • $55 - Student - Full Time (School IS a CPRS Member)

Agency Memberships

  • $550 - Agency Membership
  • $475 - College/University

Non-Voting Memberships

  • $95 - Transitional - Recent College Graduate (within 1-year)
  • $95 - Special Interest (Not currently employed in the Park and Recreation Field)
  • $95 - Out-of-State Associate 

Industry Partner Membership

  • $440 - Industry Partner Membership

How can I get involved in CPRS?

Members can join a District or Section, serve on a committee, attend local events, volunteer at the CONNECTIONS conference, or even run for a leadership position. Please visit the "Get Involved" page for more information.
