Why have you chosen to run for the CPRS State Board of Directors?
First, let me start by saying that I am honored to be a candidate for Secretary/Treasurer with California Parks and Recreation Society.   I am no stranger to the field, as I have worked in the Parks and Recreation my entire professional career.  I started as a part-time recreation leader and have grown up the ranks to my current capacity.  During this time, I have always been an active member and supporter of CPRS.  This is now my opportunity to give back to CPRS.  I am a dedicated advocate, association leader, and I understand the individual voice we have in our communities and organizations. I want to serve on the Board to advocate that our voices are heard collectively and ensure a strong and effective message that Parks and Recreation is an essential service.  We offer a tremendous amount of insight, respect with diverse programming and added value; however, we now face unprecedented times and need to ensure consistent and transparent resources are readily available for the membership.

What personal attributes, skills, or knowledge would you bring to the State Board of Directors if elected?
I have always been an energetic worker. Throughout my work history this energy has shown itself through my upbeat attitude, ability to multi-task and get the job done with a high level of proficiency.  Work has always been about more than a to-do list for me. I love brainstorming, innovation, and organizational efficiency.   I strive to take initiative to help on special projects and think outside-the-box with an entrepreneurial spirit.  I have a Bachelor of Science in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Administration from California State University Sacramento, where I was honored to be asked to return and teach Orientation to Recreation, Parks and Tourism Administration and Leadership and Group Development. Most importantly, I love what I do and I am dedicated to the profession.  I offer a broad skillset that touches all aspects of the Parks and Recreation Profession, with a commitment to ensure our elected officials understand that Parks Make Life Better!

What is the greatest challenge our profession faces and how will you lead to address that challenge?
Communities everywhere are facing unprecedented times. Despite the many benefits of Parks and Recreation, we face challenges too. I want to serve on the Board to accomplish the duties of the Secretary/Treasurer position and to be an advocate to advance the following five (5) Action Plans: 1. Action Plan regarding Industry-Wide Covid-19 Transparent Precautions 2. Action Plan regarding Industry-Wide Contracted Instructor Regulations 3. Action Plan regarding Industry-Wide Parks and Recreation Childcare Regulations 4. Action Plan regarding Statewide Recognition “Parks and Recreation Day” 5. Action Plan regarding Enhanced Membership Trainings Our profession creates change in our communities. We need to share the value of our profession in a uniformed message that drives measurable results. I hope that I can be counted on to make an impact that enhances CPRS now and into the future. I thank you for your time and consideration.
