Why have you chosen to run for the CPRS State Board of Directors?
I’ve chosen to run for the CPRS State Board of Directors because I am genuinely passionate about the power of parks and recreation to transform communities and improve lives. CPRS has been instrumental in shaping my career, offering invaluable connections, mentorship, and professional development. I feel a strong drive to give back and help shape the future of our field. I’m eager to contribute to initiatives that support equity, inclusivity, and innovation, and to advocate for our profession’s essential role in building vibrant, resilient communities across California.
What personal attributes, skills, or knowledge would you bring to the State Board of Directors if elected?
As a seasoned recreation professional, I bring a well-rounded blend of leadership experience, strategic vision, and a strong commitment to enhancing our communities through recreation and parks. My years in the field have sharpened my abilities in team-building, community outreach, and program innovation, equipping me to effectively represent the interests and needs of our profession. I am deeply committed to advancing equitable and accessible recreation opportunities and fostering collaborations that strengthen community bonds. If elected, I am eager to bring these skills, alongside my dedication to professional growth and mentorship, to the State Board of Directors.
What is the greatest challenge our profession faces and how will you lead to address that challenge?
One of the greatest challenges our profession faces is securing sustainable funding to meet growing community needs and ensure equitable access to recreation spaces. Financial constraints often hinder our ability to expand programs, upgrade facilities, and innovate. To address this, I will continue to advocate, have the tough conversations, support initiatives, and stay current on the social benefits of parks and recreation. By driving informed advocacy and seeking diverse funding sources, I aim to create a foundation of awareness for sustainable growth that matches our community impacts.
